Gardening has always been more than just a hobby for me—it’s a legacy passed down from my beloved Grandma Lester. From tomatoes to peppers, and even eggplants, she poured her heart into cultivating her garden. Now, with the AEROTOWER, I can continue this tradition using smart gardening technology. A New Chapter:
When health issues forced me out of the workforce, it felt like my life had come to a standstill. Suddenly, I had time on my hands but found myself physically unable to continue gardening the way I once did. Bending, planting, and weeding—all the tasks I once enjoyed—became difficult, if not impossible. My garden remained a dream out of reach until the spring of 2024, when being shown a YouTube video sparked a new chapter in my aeroponics gardening journey.
We had been redoing the backyard, and my wife had a small garden. I began to realize that I could again garden even with my limitations and could grow enough food for not only ourselves but extended family.Â
Uncovering Aeroponics:
A chance encounter with a video on the internet introduced us to the world of vertical gardening using aeroponics. The sight of a gardener harvesting huge heads of broccoli from a tower system intrigued us both, and my curiosity took over. Could this be the answer to my gardening challenges? The more I read about aeroponics, the more it seemed like a perfect solution—no bending, no weeding, higher yields, and faster growth times.
My research into aeroponics opened up a world of possibilities. Unlike traditional gardening, which relies on soil, aeroponics allows plants to grow in an air and nutrient rich drip environment, resulting in better-tasting, more nutrient-dense produce.
From Concept to Creation:
The First Four-Tower Unit
Determined to create a solution that worked for us, I set out to build my first aeroponic system—a four-tower unit that could hold over 128 plants. It was a learning experience filled with trial and error, as I experimented with different pumps, timers, and designs. My goal was to grow as many varieties of plants as possible to test the system’s effectiveness. From lettuces and herbs to tomatoes and broccoli, I planted a diverse range of crops and eagerly awaited the results.
As I built and refined the system, I couldn’t help but think about how it could benefit others as well. People with physical limitations like mine, those with small backyards, or even those living in apartments with only a balcony could all benefit from this system. The simplicity and efficiency of aeroponics meant that gardening was no longer out of reach for anyone. My focus shifted from just creating a system for my own use to developing a product that could help others experience the joy of gardening, regardless of their circumstances.
